It was a great morning hanging out with the news crew. I thought the Office Space “TPS” report comment in the beginning went over like a storm!! The studio was in stitches. Thanks Mark!!
Heading on to NYC early next week!

What happens when people can work anywhere – home offices, coffee shops, libraries, coworking spaces? With mobile computing, telecommunications, and broadband, knowledge workers are choosing new work arrangements and self-organizing in looser, more transient arrangements. We’ll discuss these broad trends and what they mean for work, using coworking as a specific example.

This guy wrote a book about creative pitfalls and has little cartoons about them. It’s pretty cool. You can check out the first part of the book here…

Suburbia has never been so boring and homogenous. We’ve gone from village, to mall, to stripmall, to THIS.
This photo was taken just outside of Sacramento, CA. Someone must have forgotten to support those local retailers. Who is going to support your kids little league team? Or better yet, who is going to stop Wal-Mart from dominating then jacking up prices when their is no competition? Who’s going to stop Wal-Mart from manipulating their vendors, ultimately requiring that all products are produced overseas, costing us crucial jobs?? Who is going to stop Wal-Mart from closing all the other retailers and then beging to lower wages (even more), since their is nowhere else to work?
I have good friends who shop at Wal-Mart. Just remember people, short term discount (even though it’s not always true!) will likely lead to long term price increases for poor-quality products. Watch out.
If you must go ‘big-box’, consider Costco. Not only do they pay their employees better and have always offered health insurance (and gladly hired full-time employees), but their original name was actually “Fed-Mart”. No joke.
A brief history of a very young concept – the weekend.

Just got back from the 2010 SXSW conference. Another great year.
Digital: We’ll, it’s here to stay. Some estimates were that the digital attendees and exhibitors doubled from last year. It’s becoming the premier conference for new digital endeavors and applications. Ad:Tech, watch out.
Film: Still no luck finding a producer to develop Permanent Temporary (the film or series). Maybe next year. Bumped into Seth Myers (SNL Weekend Update), im a fan. Did not actually see any films… waited in lines but never got into any of them. Too popular I guess. Beer and music were acceptable alternatives.
Music: Highlights: Broken Bells, Soft Pack, Band of Horses, “Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly”, The Antlers. Superstar Social Club was pretty cool to see.
All in all good times, but several times I overheard that this might have been the year that SXSW “jumped the shark”. It might have just been people trying to sound cool and wanting to use the term “Jumped the Shark”. Who knows.

Check them out, new on the scene. Will post details as I uncover them…
A Cleveland-based company (my home town) has developed a new device to charge small electronics using kinetic energy from your movement while walking, bike-riding, driving (on bumpier roads in economy cars, I’d assume!). Great for traveling, outdoor travel while still staying connected to work, and doesn’t require sunlight like other similar devices.
I haven’t seen one in-person yet but will keep you updated when I do.
